Bumble Bee Foods LLC must face allegations that it sourced albacore tuna for US grocery shoppers from fishing boats it knew relied on forced labor.
The Indonesian workers sufficiently alleged the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act applies to their overseas injuries, the US District Court for the Southern District of California said. They also adequately pleaded that the seafood company benefited from selling tuna they caught, participated in a venture with the people who owned and operated the boats they worked on, and should have known that work was forced, the Wednesday order said.
