Starbucks Corp. will pay $38.9 million to settle claims that it violated a New York City law by failing to provide proper advance notice of shift scheduling to thousands of hourly employees over a three-year period, city officials announced.
The company will pay $35.5 million to approximately 15,000 current and former employees who worked at Starbucks stores between July 2021 and July 2024 to resolve alleged violations of the city’s Fair Workweek ordinance, under the settlement made public Monday.
Starbucks will also shell out around $3.4 million in additional civil penalties and fees, according to the announcement.
