The House Republican Study Committee met with nonpartisan congressional offices and Republican-aligned think tanks about deficit reduction options they could tackle in their next party-line bill, according to two people familiar with the meeting.
The group, the largest caucus of House Republicans, met with Congressional Budget Office Director Phillip Swagel, Joint Committee on Taxation Chief of Staff Tom Barthold, and representatives from the Heritage Foundation, the Fiscal Lab on Capitol Hill, and the Foundation for Government Accountability, the people said.
