EXCLUSIVE: CFPB Investigating Trump Targets
The CFPB is investigating several community lenders backed by a program the Trump administration wants to slash, even as the program and its recipients enjoy significant bipartisan support, Evan Weinberger reports.
Since last month, the agency has sent out “supervisory questionnaires” to at least four loan funds that are certified community development financial institutions. The questionnaires went to loan funds that hadn’t been subject to CFPB supervision and were ordered by top political appointees at the bureau.
