New York lawmakers passed a measure banning surveillance pricing Thursday, setting up a clash with business interests who say the ban goes the farthest in the US and will hurt consumers.
The issue now heads to Gov. Kathy Hochul (D), who said last week she was in contact with Attorney General Letitia James on the ban. James (D) has pushed the measure as a bid for consumer protection and accused large corporations of discriminatory pricing methods using personal data. It passed the state Senate 39-21 and the Assembly 96-45 late Thursday night.
