Designer Bob Mackie Sues Business Partner for Brand Control (1)

Fashion designer Bob Mackie sued his longtime business partner and their company Thursday, saying the company exploited Mackie’s name and mismanaged its assets.

The suit against Marc Schwartz and Bob Mackie Design Group Ltd. comes the same day as Mackie sued JCPenney, alleging it falsely implied that he endorsed a new apparel collection by using his name and signature without permission.

Mackie alleges Schwartz and their company entered a licensing deal with JCPenney—which isn’t party to this new lawsuit—without his consent. He said in a complaint Schwartz “surreptitiously” entered negotiations with JCPenney and impermissibly authorized the use of his name, ...
