New Jersey discriminates on the basis of race by allowing auto insurers to consider a driver’s education and employment history when setting rates, a suit filed in state court says.
Education and employment history are proxies for race and income, two factors the state doesn’t allow to be considered when insurance rates are set, a coalition of groups including the NAACP New Jersey State Conference allege.
