Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier (R) is opening a new unit geared toward scrutinizing state and local officials’ use of public funds, days after news broke about his high salary for an adjunct teaching job at a state university.
Uthmeier, during a Thursday press conference, said the new public integrity unit is launching a review of legislative appropriations from the last two years and focusing on funds to nonprofits looking for signs of “bribery, extortion, embezzlement, nepotism, kickbacks and other forms of financial misconduct.”
