Baltimore Asks Court to Halt CFPB’s Funding, Operation Freeze

Baltimore’s mayor and city council asked a federal court Wednesday to stop the acting director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau from defunding the agency.

The lawsuit follows Acting CFPB director Russell Vought’s announcement earlier this week, ordering the agency’s employees to stop working and close the headquarters for the week.

The closure is an attempt to “do by fiat what opponents of the CFPB were unable to do in Congress or the courts,” the complaint filed in the US District Court for the District of Maryland said.
