OpenAI Unable to Force NYT to Hand Over Internal AI Use Data

OpenAI Inc. couldn’t show why The New York Times should have to turn over its internal AI usage data in a fair use suit from the newspaper, a district court ruled Friday.

The artificial intelligence company was unable to demonstrate how it’s relevant for the Times to have to submit the sought after data into discovery, Magistrate Judge Ona T. Wang said in an opinion. OpenAI’s motion to compel was denied in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York.
