BNP Drops as Sudan Verdict Raises Fear of Costly Settlement (2)

BNP Paribas SA plummeted after a court ruling linked it to human rights abuses in Sudan, triggering speculation the firm will ultimately have to pay billions of dollars to settle related cases.

A jury in Manhattan federal court on Friday found the bank liable “for its role in enabling the genocide committed against Black African civilians in Sudan by the al-Bashir dictatorship from 2002 to 2008,” according to a statement from the law firm Hausfeld, which represents them.
