Covid Vaccine Administration Immunity Expanded as Pandemic Ends

Covid-19 pandemic liability shields for health professionals administering vaccines will be extended as the Biden administration formally ends the federal public health emergency, the HHS announced Thursday.

Covid still “presents a credible risk of a future public health emergency,” Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra wrote in a Federal Register notice of regulatory changes. The changes, which would protect licensed pharmacists, technicians, and others from legal liability for administering Food and Drug Administration approved or authorized Covid-19 vaccines and other products for grappling with SARS-CoV-2 or its mutations, would “prepare for and mitigate that risk,” Becerra said.
