- Expanded management committee elected longtime partner
- Gregory Katz is based in New York, leads general liability group
Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith has named a new leader following the exodus of more than 100 lawyers from the Los Angeles-founded law firm.
Gregory Katz has been elected the firm’s managing partner, Lewis Brisbois announced late Tuesday. The Manhattan lawyer and 13-year Lewis Brisbois veteran leads the firm’s general liability and transportation practices.
Katz’s ascension comes after Bob Lewis, the firm’s co-founder and longtime chair, stepped down from his leadership role earlier this month. Lewis Brisbois also disbanded its executive committee in the wake of the mass departure of attorneys, primarily from its California-based labor and employment group.
The exiting lawyers joined practice group leaders John Barber and Jeff Ranen at a new firm launched by the pair.
Katz also oversees the “24/7 rapid response on-call transportation team” at Lewis Brisbois.
A firm spokesperson said Katz would not be available to discuss his new role until mid-June. “He’s leaving for a pre-planned overseas trip,” she said.
