Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe said Monday it hired 37 lawyers, including 10 partners, from multiple offices of Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft, a Wall Street firm hit with a string of departures since the start of the year.

The group of 10 partners and 27 other lawyers make up a collateralized loan obligation and asset-backed lending team. It includes Washington, DC-based Gregg Jubin, who led Cadwalader’s office in that city, and David Quirolo, who served as office co-managing partner in London and management committee member until earlier this year.

“The addition of this world class team positions our firm uniquely to advise our private credit and banking clients as they innovate on private debt solutions,” Orrick chair Mitch Zuklie said in a Monday statement.

Bloomberg Law previously reported eight of the partner departures Orrick announced Monday, bringing the total number of partner departures from Cadwalader this year to at least 33. Two of the 10 new Orrick partners held the special counsel title at Cadwalader, according to their LinkedIn profiles. Even after some replacement hires, Cadwalader has lost almost a fifth of its partnership ranks this year.

Cadwalader said in a statement the firm wished the departing lawyers well.

Orrick’s Monday statement confirms that Orrick is opening an office in Charlotte, North Carolina. The city has been “long a center of financial innovation and home to many valued clients,” Zuklie said.

The firm is currently negotiating an office space in a “premiere location in uptown Charlotte,” with the goal of occupying the space by year-end, said chief communications officer Jolie Goldstein. In the meanwhile, the incoming team will work from a co-working facility.

(Adds Cadwalader comment in fifth paragraph. Previous updates corrected the number and percentage of departing partners in the fourth paragraph.)
