Warren Demands Trump’s Fed Nominees Vow to Protect Research

Senator Elizabeth Warren is demanding that Federal Reserve nominees commit to protect independent research after National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett said the authors of a New York Fed study that found US firms and consumers paid nearly 90% of the cost of tariffs should be “disciplined.”

“Any nominee to the Federal Reserve must commit under oath before Congress that they would not silence the Fed’s independent research, including at its regional reserve banks, or punish the experts for simply doing their jobs,” Warren, the top Democrat on the Senate Banking Committee, said in a statement sent to Bloomberg News. ...
