ABI Civility Task Force Releases Principles Of Civility for Bankruptcy Professionals

The American Bankruptcy Institute Civility Task Force Aug. 28 released its “Report on Standards of Professional Courtesy and Conduct,” containing proposed principles of civility to encourage bankruptcy professionals to promote integrity and increase public trust in the bankruptcy system.

‘Educate and Guide’ Bankruptcy Professionals.

The principles are intended to “educate and guide professionals who are representatives of—or practicing in—American bankruptcy courts.” Although professionals are encouraged to comply with the principles, the civility code does not establish “enforceable minimum standards of professional care or competence” and should be “considered against the context of the professional’s duty to represent clients ...
