PayPal to Take Over Carlyle Stake in E-Commerce Firm Shopware

PayPal Holdings Inc. is taking over a stake in German digital commerce company Shopware AG from a Carlyle Group Inc. fund, according to people with knowledge of the matter.

PayPal’s stake in Shopware will increase to about 41% from roughly 11% with the deal, said the people, who asked not to be identified discussing the private transaction.

Carlyle Europe Technology Partners IV and PayPal invested $100 million in Shopware in February 2022, citing the firm’s existing presence in Germany, a key e-commerce market, and the company’s ambitions to expand internationally.
