U.S. Bankruptcy Tracker: Bankruptcies Pick Up at Year End

Three large companies filed for bankruptcy last week while the pile of distressed debt outstanding shrunk.

  • Denmark-based Nordic Aviation Capital A/S, one of the world’s largest aircraft leasing companies, sought bankruptcy protection to overhaul about $6 billion of debt.
    • Vewd Software USA, an Internet streaming technology company, filed for bankruptcy on Wednesday in New York
    • JPA No. 111 Co., a special purpose vehicle formed under Japanese law, filed for bankruptcy with $208 million of debt outstanding
  • As of Monday, U.S. courts this year have seen 118 large bankruptcies -- cases involving liabilities of at least $50 million -- compared to ...
