US Bankruptcy Filings Rise 10% as Financial Pressures Mount

Bankruptcy filings rose 10% in the first half of 2025 compared to the same period last year, marked by an increase in Chapter 7 liquidation.

Total bankruptcy filings surged to 276,126 in the first half of the year, according to data from Epiq AACER, a bankruptcy information provider, with most coming from individuals. Chapter 7 filings reached 163,219, representing a 15% increase from last year’s figure of 141,566 during the same period.
