Welcome to the heart of primary season for the 2026 midterm congressional elections.

Starting today in Indiana and Ohio, there will be a primary or runoff every Tuesday in May and June. (Not to mention a Saturday primary next week in Louisiana.)

Indiana’s primary will test the potency of President Donald Trump‘s clout in down-ballot races. Eight Republican state senators face primary challengers after defying Trump to vote down a White House-backed redistricting proposal in December that would have favored the GOP in all nine reconfigured House districts.
