Abortion Restrictions, Spending Cuts Cause Trouble for House GOP

House Republicans face major challenges with each of their remaining government-funding bills, as abortion restrictions, spending cuts, and other conservative measures draw opposition from more moderate members.

The Financial Services and General Government spending bill (H.R. 4664) — which provides funds for the District of Columbia — faces GOP opposition over measures on abortion laws in the capital. The Labor-HHS-Education appropriations bill (H.R. 5894) is getting pushback over steep spending cuts. And the Commerce-Justice-Science measure (H.R. 5893) is considered one of the most difficult remaining bills due to disagreements over funding the FBI.
