Democratic plans to expand enhanced Obamacare tax credits permanently would add $349.8 billion to the deficit over the next decade and increase the number of insured individuals by 3.8 million, a new Congressional Budget Office analysis found.
The CBO also estimated that average premiums would be 7.6% lower each year between 2026 and 2035 for benchmark plans. However, for 2026, premiums could be just 2.4% lower if the permanent extension is enacted after September because insurers may not adjust premiums at that point in time.
