President Donald Trump recommended increasing the Energy Department’s budget by 10% in fiscal year 2027, renewing an emphasis on so-called energy dominance while steering money away from renewable energy infrastructure.
Under Trump’s proposalreleased Friday, the Energy Department would receive $53.9 billion in discretionary funding, much of which is earmarked for nuclear defense. The budget proposal is a $4.8 billion increase from the 2026 enacted level. Trump is also targeting spending toward developing a domestic supply of critical minerals and electricity production.
