AI Deepfakes Bill Advances Through Senate Judiciary Committee

The Senate Judiciary Committee advanced a bill by voice vote Thursday that would protect the likeness of American citizens from digital copies.

The No Fakes Act (S. 4591), which has been in the works for years and was revised and reintroduced in May, places the responsibility on social media companies and other online platforms to take down AI-generated content that digitally impersonates individuals without their consent. Companies that don’t adhere to the law are subject to monetary penalties.
