AI Guardrails for Children Advancing in California Legislature

A first-in-the-nation California measure that would place guardrails on AI models to better protect minors, including a right for parents to sue developers for harm, is advancing in the state legislature.

The measure (AB 1064), inspired by EU regulations, would be the most comprehensive law in the US, if enacted, establishing rules to protect children from the emerging technology. It would create regulations that place AI products likely to be used by children into different risk levels.
