Air Force Scraps RTX Corp. GPS Satellite Ground Control Program

The Air Force on Monday canceled RTX Corp.’s ground-control network for the US’s next generation of GPS satellites after years of delays and cost overruns.

“Regrettably, extensive system issues arose during” recent integrated testing of with the broader GPS system, Colonel Stephen Hobbs, a Space Force official said in a statement. “Despite repeated collaborative approaches by the entire government and contractor team, the challenges of onboarding the system in an operationally relevant timeline proved insurmountable,” he added.
