AI’s Worst-Case Scenarios Under Review by Homeland Threats Team

Artificial intelligence can make it easier for adversaries to deploy catastrophic weapons against the US, a risk federal officials are quickly working to mitigate.

The Department of Homeland Security delivered the stark warning in a report made public Monday and first seen by Bloomberg Government.

Widespread access to advanced AI technologies “may create novel risks to the homeland from malign actors’ enhanced ability to conceptualize and conduct CBRN attacks,” the report says, referring to chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear threats.
