American Airlines Group Inc. will invest $1 billion in a concourse expansion at Miami International Airport, a move to help bolster the carrier’s position at its top international gateway.
The spending announced on Wednesday will go toward an overhaul of the airport’s Concourse D, which is currently equipped to handle smaller regional jets. The new, three-level concourse will add 17 new gates to accommodate larger planes, eliminate outside boarding and expand parts of the concourse to boost passenger comfort, according to the carrier.
