American Airlines Is Latest US Carrier to Raise Bag Fees (1)

American Airlines Group Inc. is increasing checked bag fees, making it the latest US carrier to bump up prices in an effort to absorb surging jet fuel costs.

The Fort Worth, Texas-based airline will charge passengers $50 for the first checked bag, $60 for the second and $200 for the third. Those fees will apply to domestic flights and short-haul international flights booked starting Thursday, according to a release.

Customers buying tickets for the premium cabins on both domestic and international flights, as well as AAdvantage status members, will still check bags with no charge.
