Ammo Plant in Texas Rodeo Capital Makes Vital 155mm Shells (2)

A new General Dynamics Corp. munitions plant equipped with machinery from a Turkish company opens Wednesday in Mesquite, Texas, better known for bronco-riding than shell-making.

Depending on how long the war in Ukraine grinds on, the new 155mm shell plant in the so-called Rodeo Capital of Texas is intended as part of a US push to boost production to 100,000 complete shells a month by October 2025, from the 35,000 that had been planned by last month. Expanded production also depends on a new plant in Canada and an upgrade of the Army’s long-operating plan in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
