Amtrak Station Accessibility Improvements Sought in Senate Bill

A bipartisan pair of senators are pressuring Amtrak to make train stations accessible for people with disabilities — in hopes of fulfilling decades-old promise from a civil rights law.

Amtrak would need to report to Congress annually on the status of their compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act at the 385 transit stations it serves and include an action plan on bringing rail cars and stations into compliance, according to the bill, sent to Bloomberg Government. The legislation, which is being announced Thursday, is led by Sens. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.).
