Amtrak faces mounting delays and cost increases in its plan to replace its high‐speed trains on the Northeast Corridor, a new watchdog report found.
The rail corporation has promoted its forthcoming Acela fleet as the “next generation of train travel” launching next year, but the vendor’s trains have yet to meet federal safety requirements and the trainsets have defects, the Amtrak Office of Inspector General reported Tuesday. The delays come as Republicans have criticized Amtrak for its spending.
