Anti-Drunk Driving Technology Mandate Pushed on Hill Amid Delays

Hundreds of pictures of people killed and 10,000 candles lined the National Mall on Tuesday night, a visual reminder to lawmakers and regulators of the number of lives that advocates say could be saved each year from drunk driving crashes.

The Biden administration just missed an initial deadline from Congress to issue a final rule for requirements that new cars be equipped with technology to prevent drunk-driving. Lawmakers, advocates, and safety officials gathered outside the Capitol to urge action, as questions arise about the fate of the auto safety initiatives and regulations when the Trump administration takes power.
