Autonomous vehicle manufacturers are boosting their lobbying muscle in Washington as Congress drafts a surface transportation reauthorization that could accelerate—or limit—adoption of the technology.
Pending legislation (H.R. 4661) in the House would allow more driverless cars on public roadways and preempt state laws requiring drivers in commercial vehicles. Although there isn’t a Senate companion yet, the bill will be a top subject at a Wednesday Senate Commerce Committee hearing on the future of AV technology.
