Bad Wiring Drove Ship Crash With Francis Scott Key Bridge (1)

Faulty wiring led to the March 2024 collision of a container ship with the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, the National Transportation Safety Board concluded.

The panel on Tuesday approved the finding about why the vessel lost power before colliding with a pier supporting the bridge, causing it to collapse into the Patapsco River. Reconstruction cost as high as $5.2 billion, Maryland officials said Monday.

“We shouldn’t be here today,” Jennifer Homendy, NTSB chair, said on Tuesday in prepared remarks. “This was preventable.”
