Baltimore Bridge Rebuild Secures Full Funding in Year-End Deal

Maryland secured a major win in year-end legislation unveiled Tuesday night with a provision to guarantee full federal funding for the rebuild of Baltimore’s collapsed Francis Scott Key Bridge — which lawmakers expect will speed up reconstruction efforts.

“This will allow the bridge it to be built as quickly as possible,” Maryland Democratic Sens. Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen said Tuesday. “Our provision also ensures that the federal taxpayers will be reimbursed through proceeds from insurance payments and litigation taken on by the Department of Justice, the Maryland Attorney General and others.”
