BGOV Bill Analysis: H.R. 1687, Geothermal Lease Sales

The Interior Department would be required to hold lease sales every year in states with land areas nominated for geothermal development under H.R. 1687, which also would expedite consideration of geothermal drilling permits.

Under current law, the Interior Department is required to hold a competitive lease sale once every two years for land in a state that has pending nominations. The measure would require the department to hold a replacement sale in the same year a sale is canceled or delayed.
