BGOV Bill Analysis: H.R. 1958, Deport Noncitizens for Fraud

Any non-US citizen who defrauds the US government or illegally obtains public benefits would be inadmissible to and deportable from the US under H.R. 1958.

The measure would create automatic grounds for inadmissibility and removability for noncitizens who admit to or are convicted of committing certain fraud-related crimes, or obtaining federal, state, or local public benefits for which they don’t qualify. They’d also be ineligible for any form of immigration relief, including asylum, withholding of removal, and protections under the United Nations Convention Against Torture.
