The African Growth and Opportunity Act program, which lapsed on Sept. 30, generally allowed the duty-free import into the US of certain clothing and textile products assembled in participating African countries. The program also allowed the president to provide duty-free treatment to other nontextile goods produced in qualifying sub-Saharan countries, excluding certain import-sensitive articles.
