BGOV Bill Analysis: H.R. 7892, Student Aid Fraud Detection

The Education Department would have to screen federal student financial aid applications for identity fraud and require schools to conduct additional ID verification under a modified version of H.R. 7892.

Under the measure, the department would flag applications that present a reasonable suspicion of identity fraud to both the applicant and each school designated on their aid applications.

Institutions would be barred from disbursing financial aid to an applicant unless they have confirmed their identity.
