Republicans are debating how best to advance their priorities using the budget reconciliation process, which lets Congress fast-track budget-related policies without the minority party.

Reconciliation has been used to enact sweeping policy changes since the 1980s. Most recently, Democrats used the process to enact their 2022 tax, climate, and health law. Republicans last used it in 2017 to enact their landmark tax overhaul, parts of which expire at the end of this year.
