House lawmakers are moving forward with an ambitious surface transportation bill that would authorize $580 billion over five years to support roads, bridges, public transit, and railroads.
The Transportation and Infrastructure panel is set to consider the measure today as the Sept. 30 deadline to extend funding rapidly approaches.
The bill is packed with policy overhauls, including a new annual fee on electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids, permitting overhauls, and the first-ever federal standards for commercial autonomous vehicles.
