BGOV OnPoint: Highway Fund Haunts Surface Transportation Talks

Lawmakers face a dwindling highway funding source and competing priorities as they assemble the next surface transportation package before its programs expire Sept. 30.

House Transportation and Infrastructure Chairman Sam Graves (R-Mo.) plans to release a draft bill in March and send it to the House floor by spring. The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee could soon follow, one of many panels that would have a say in the final package.
