BGOV OnPoint: Housing Bill Inches Ahead as More Work Remains

Congress is working toward final approval on a bipartisan housing policy package, but outstanding disagreements between the House and Senate signal the need for more talks.

The House advanced its latest version of the measure (H.R. 6644; BGOV Bill Analysis) on May 20, sending the bill back to the Senate, which passed its version of the bill in March (BGOV Bill Analysis).

House lawmakers added back a package of changes to community banking preferred by House Republicans, a scaled-back ban on Wall Street home purchases, and initiatives for renters.
