BGOV OnPoint: Senate Off to Rocky Start on Appropriations

Senate appropriators approved their Agriculture-FDA and Legislative Branch funding bills July 10, but hit a snag on the Commerce-Justice-Science measure after an uproar over the location of the FBI’s headquarters.

It was the chamber’s first bout of work on funding bills for fiscal 2026, which begins Oct. 1. Both chambers have faced delays in their appropriations work, making a continuing resolution likely and a government shutdown a possibility.
