The government’s watchdog would be tasked with reviewing several climate and energy rules in light of the Supreme Court’s recent decision scrapping agency deference under a measure appropriators approved Tuesday.
The GOP amendment to the fiscal 2025 Interior-Environment spending bill directs the Government Accountability Office to conduct a review within 180 days of enactment of rules issued before June 28 by agencies funded under the measure, including the Environmental Protection Agency and Interior Department. The Supreme Court in June struck down the longstanding Chevron deference to federal agencies when it comes to interpreting congressional intent.
