The White House announced a plan Friday that would ban single-use plastics from federal operations by 2035 in a bid to stem the rising tide of plastic waste pollution.

A new framework details a multi-agency effort that includes an aggressive push to phase out by 2027 single-use plastics from food service operations, events, and packaging purchased by the federal government. Over the next decade, the administration seeks to eliminate such plastics entirely from all federal operations.

The strategy aims to take a governmentwide approach to combat the negative impacts of plastic throughout its entire life cycle.
