Biden’s Transit Chief Set to Retire, Leaving DOT Leadership Gaps

Nuria Fernandez, head of the Federal Transit Administration, will retire on Feb. 24 after almost three years in the role — opening up another leadership gap at one of the Transportation Department’s agencies.

The department announced the forthcoming departure of Fernandez, the first woman of color to be confirmed to the position, in a statement on Wednesday. When Fernandez leaves the agency this month, deputy administrator Veronica Vanterpool will become acting head.
