Bipartisan Fund to Restore Federal Parks, Lands Moves in Senate

Bipartisan legislation that would authorize $9.5 billion over the next five years to repair and upgrade infrastructure in national parks and on other federal lands advanced in the Senate on Wednesday.

The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee approved S. 1547 with robust Republican and Democratic support. Lawmakers and staff negotiated all night into Wednesday morning to come to an agreement, backed by Chairman Mike Lee (R-Utah) and ranking member Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), to reduce the proposed funding in the original Senate bill to the same level and time frame of the House legislation.
