Border and immigration agencies, the Secret Service, and the Transportation Security Administration would see budget boosts under Senate legislation as lawmakers debate whether to negotiate a full government-funding deal in December or kick the can with a stopgap.
The Senate Appropriations Committee released its fiscal 2025 Homeland Security funding bill Wednesday evening, a measure that would provide a wide range of spending increases. Lawmakers had planned to mark up the bill earlier this year, but progress stalled as members scrutinized the Secret Service budget after two unsuccessful assassination attempts on now President-elect Donald Trump.
